CSEAP Emotional Intelligence Cohort Coaching

Join our Next Emotional Intelligence Coaching Cohort!

CSEAP offers group cohort coaching in order to create skill development and peer connection among State leaders. Both experienced and developing State leaders are encouraged to participate in order to connect, learn, and build skill in areas of emotional intelligence (EI). This service is available to State employees and employees of participating institutions of higher education who hold supervisory responsibilities in their State leadership roles.

Please read through the drop-down information below prior to completing our interest form. Once you've completed the form linked below, you'll receive additional information from our Emotional Intelligence Coaching Service Coordinator.

EI Cohort Interest Form

What is a coaching cohort?

A coaching cohort is a group of supervisors, managers, and other leaders - from various state departments and institutions of higher education - participating in the CSEAP Emotional Intelligence Coaching service at the same time. Participants will join the cohort during an 'open window' for registration, complete the Emotional Social Intelligence Competency Inventory (ESCI) 360 Assessment, and engage in both individual and group coaching sessions.

What is the general process in order to participate in a coaching cohort?

Typically, the process for participation is as follows:

  • Contact CSEAP to schedule a brief consultation to gain more information about the service - see our contact information below.
  • Participate in a launch orientation session to gather details about the ESCI 360 assessment launch process and information about EI (emotional intelligence) individual and group coaching sessions.
  • Participate in 1 individual coaching sessions with a trained CSEAP Emotional Intelligence Coach. In order to participate in the cohort (and receive the results of your ESCI 360 assessment), one individual coaching session is required following completion of the ESCI assessment. You may request up to 2 additional individual coaching sessions.
  • Participate in 2 group coaching sessions. Group coaching sessions provide an opportunity to connect with other leaders, process shared experiences, and learn from your facilitator and each other.

Contact maria.thomson@state.co.us or meta.sarmiento@state.co.us for more information or orientation dates and times.

What is the cost of the ESCI 360 assessment and coaching?

Currently there is no fee to participate in an EI group coaching cohort. The typical cost of the ESCI 360 assessment is $300 per participant. When CSEAP funds to purchase ESCI assessments are depleted during a budget cycle, the service will not be available until the next budget cycle or additional funds are available to purchase ESCI assessments. For institutions of higher education that contract for CSEAP services, the ESCI assessment is free-of-charge (when available) though fees apply for coordination, coaching, group coaching, and other related services - contact your HR unit or contract administrator for more information.

About the ESCI

The Emotional Social Competency Inventory (ESCI) is an assessment tool used to provide 360 feedback to cohort coaching participants. You'll see that we refer to the ESCI as the 'ESCI 360', the '360', or 'ESCI'. This instrument was designed by Richard Boyatzis and Daniel Goleman and demonstrates reliability and validity as an evaluation tool. In order for this tool to be used most effectively, raters (those providing feedback) serve in various roles associated with the coaching cohort participant - these positions include leaders/managers, stakeholders, clients/customers (as appropriate), peers team members, and employees/supervisees. The ESCI tool also includes a self-assessment component completed by the cohort coaching participant. For more information about the ESCI instrument, visit https://www.eiconsortium.org/measures/eci_360.html.

Tell me more about CSEAP Emotional Intelligence Coaches.

About our Coaches

CSEAP Emotional Intelligence coaches are trained and certified by Korn Ferry to interpret your ESCI 360 results and provide coaching in the EI competency areas of self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, and relationship management. Our coaches are trained to engage you to self-direct your path of growth and development. We're available to support goal-setting, offer education, and encourage dialogue intended to assist you in developing self-awareness and leadership insight. Coaches can also be available to consult or process challenging or difficult situations in which emotional intelligence competencies may be applied to encourage successful outcomes.

Is there any other way to participate in CSEAP Emotional Intelligence Coaching?

Team Group Cohorts

CSEAP works with agency leaders to develop group coaching opportunities - including a Talent Summary - for supervisors, managers, and other leaders serving on the same team. These opportunities are offered as CSEAP availability allows. The process for an agency team is similar to the process steps outlined for a general coaching cohort. As resources allow, this service is free-of-charge to interested teams. However, when CSEAP resources are limited, this service may only be available at the cost (~$300 per person) of the requesting team.

In order to create a productive team experience, it is imperative that all team members are engaged in the group coaching process. Leaders and managers should consider engaging their teams in discussions of why the ESCI assessments and group coaching process could be beneficial to the team prior to contacting CSEAP. Including your team in the decision to engage in this process can create beneficial 'buy in' that ultimately leads to impactful coaching discussions.

Formal Coaching Referrals

CSEAP no longer accepts mandated referrals for participation in EI individual coaching, EI group coaching cohorts, or the ESCI 360 assessment. Managers and/or appointing authorities may mandate participation in CSEAP general professional coaching following a consultation with a CSEAP team member. For more details regarding scheduling a leader consultation, visit our consultation page.

Additional Team Development Resources

The state Learning and Development Center offers additional opportunities for team, employee, and leader growth and development. Visit the Learning and Development website for additional information.

What if I'm interested in coaching without the ESCI 360 assessment?

If you are interested in professional coaching just not the EI Coaching Cohort service, visit our professional coaching page for information. State employees have access to 3 professional coaching sessions per rolling year. Professional coaching is free of charge to state employees.
