Domestic Violence Awareness Month (DVAM) is held each October to unite advocates, raise public awareness about abuse, support survivors, and provide resources to end domestic violence.
Intimate partner violence creates a significant impact at home and in the workplace. According to the National Council on Domestic Violence, nearly 3 in 10 women (29%) and 1 in 10 men (10%) in the US have experienced rape, physical violence, and/or stalking by a partner and reported it having a related impact on their functioning. Victims experience functional impact in their workplace as evidenced by one survey indicating that 40% of victims were harassed at work by phone or in-person by their abusive partner. The cost of intimate partner violence to workplaces is $8.3 billion per year according to the National Domestic Violence Hotline.
